Question by Ola: How far university of Westminster is reputed comparing to other universities in UK?
I applied at Westminster University, Business school, but I discovered recently its UK ranking is low, 96 % and been around that since 2008 till 2011.
In my county university ranking has nothing to do with university reputation, most good universities in my country are not high ranked and no one looks at the ranking list, most people apply in my country to universities based on the university reputation. So I wanted to know if that is the way also in the UK. and how Westminster is reputed in the UK.
Its late for me now to apply for this year at any other university, I would have to wait for the next year.

You should actually look at the ranking of the department you’ve applied to compared to others. Reading for example is only at 45 but its archaeology department is at 5 so it has a brilliant reputation among archaeologists.
Westminster reputation wise…isn’t all that brilliant. Theres lots of snobbery in Britain with regard to universities there are a few ranks:
1.Ancients-the old ones created before the 1900s, Oxford, Cambridge, the older colleges of London. Tons of snob value, even if they aren’t the best around, which is probably why Edinburgh and Aberdeen get so many posh applicants while Glasgow (a better uni) takes the poor people.
2.Red bricks-some built before ww1 others built before ww2, Manchester, leeds, Bristol eg. They’re very good and very popular, have quite a bit of snob value.
3. Plate glass-Keele, York and Lancaster are odd ones that don’t really fit. They should’nt be good because they’re not old and yet York is now considered one of the best in Europe, whats a snob to do here?
4. former polytechnical colleges that were transformed into universities in 1992 by parliament. Snobs don’t regard these as “real universities” because they’re new and started out teaching practical skills rather than the infinitely more useful aristotle.
And unfortunately Westminster is a former polytechnical college.

and the usfq????????????
university of the philippines should be here!!!
Doesn’t it seem strange that most peoples opinions about which college is better, seems to favor the organizations they attend or once did, or is in the sphere of their own culture. To the untrained eye it may seem as if they have not really learned that anything. But I would never say that, because that might make look like an opinionated jerk. (Bam!) (double sarcasm bitches) Just learn stuff you dummies and forget all this nonsense about who’s better.
This list is just wrong. Here’s the TRUE top 10: 1. Cambridge University(UK) 2. Harvard(US) 3. Yale(US) 4. UCL(UK) 5. Massachusetts Institute of Technology(US) 6.University of Oxford(UK) 7. Imperial College London(UK) 8. University of Chicago(US) 9. California Institute of Technology(US) 10.Princeton(US)
wrong wrong wrong.
UNAM fourth!!! That’s great to know! Over Cambridge, the Imperial College and Oxford!
Virginia’s academic rating is 98!
Univ of Indiana in the top 50, they are not in the top 50 in the USA
does MIT have ARTS?
this video must be made by Chinese. I can’t believe there are 3 chinese university in top ten darn it.
Haha ha this is nonsense, the University of Mexico in the top 5???? Please give me a break!!! But this video was good for a laugh though!!! How did you rank these universities??? Ha ha ha ha ha!!
A level (when your still in school in the UK) is 2 years in collage in America
#1 is harvard, it’s universally known as the best college in the world
Dude, you forgot Princeton! Not to mention McGill and the University of Toronto…
@MysterySparkStudios ok, but that’s not an official ranking, just as the times higher education ranking is not an official ranking.
@Kostasnascos QS world rankings
@MysterySparkStudios there are no official ranking for universities.
Why isn’t Oxbridge in the top 10 :/ ?
in my opinion, most universities in this video are very very similarly rated, but good job setting them apart i agree with this video’s ratings. also, i find it very ironic that a uni founded in china by the university of liverpool is better than the university of liverpool XD
hmm… looks like “top 50 US and Chinese universities”
indonesia kemana ya ?…. semoga nanti UI, UGM, ITB bisa masuk… amin
University of Mexico # 4???. The list is totally false from the beginning.
While these ranking systems do vary, this one has gone off in a fairly extreme tangent. If you look, you’ll find that this ranking is based on search engine popularity and no other criteria, such as quality of education, staff and publications. Thus big universities come out well. There are many fine universities on here but this ranking system is crap.
