Well, according to the latest (2008) ranking of Times Higher Educational Supplement – QS World University Rankings, University of Sunderland is nowhere to be found in UK Top 50, nor World Top 500.

* Update *

Times Online has a ranking table last year with UK Top 100, and University of Sunderland was ranked 82nd (a drop by 1 place from 2007, although their score was improved). The Sunday Times ranked it 72th (an increase from 80th in 2007).

Having said that, you should know the university is constantly striving to improve and they’re getting better in terms of assessments. Just that there are other many competing universities too. And note that the ranking system is so different from one poll to another, you won’t get a full picture of the rating of the course that you intend to take by such ranking.

Of course it is a legitimate university and the degree it offers would be valid. UK education authority will not approve its university status otherwise.
