How Early Years Resources Support Primary Education
High quality early years resources are important in the educational journey of young children. Young children need a curriculum that is suitable to their intellectual, emotional and physical development. Good early years settings develop their curriculum through extensive discoveries of young children learning. To provide quality key learning experiences children will need access to excellent early years resources.
Using and being exposed to top of the range early years resources will help enable youngsters to develop the foundation of knowledge, skills and ideas that they’ll build on throughout their lives. These most significant experiences involve using language, representing experiences and ideas, developing logical reasoning involving classification and number ideas and understanding time and space. Here’s where the significance of choosing the absolute best quality early years resources comes in.
The Early Years Foundation Stage is based around 4 themes. First the concept that each child is unique and looks upon every child to be a competent learner from birth who can be adaptable, able, confident and self-assured. Secondly, the significance of positive interactions where youngsters learn to be robust and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with folks and / or a significant person. Thirdly, there has to be enabling environments which play a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning. Eventually the entire environment in which youngsters develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of learning and development are similarly critical and inter-connected. It is thru an enabling environment alongside top quality early years resources that youngsters are going to be competent learners.
Children achieve more when they feel satisfied and secure. Early years practitioners must recognise the uniqueness of each child and their job is to develop every child’s self esteem by building upon what they can do. This approach is reliant on sound educational principles. To become confident independent learners, youngsters need consistency. This must be provided thru the daily running order, the organisation of the learning environment and the techniques that adults have interaction with the children alongside having access to excellent quality early years resources.
Youngsters have a natural need to learn so by providing appropriate early years resources and high quality interaction children will be inspired to use their initiative to plan and to develop their own strengths and interests. Young children need the opportunity to create and express their objectives, to generate their own learning experiences and to reflect upon those experiences. Children learn best by being active – by engaging with people, resources, events and ideas in methods that are direct, instant and suggestive to them. These aspects will support active and significant learning.
Playing outside provides possibilities for children to use all their senses, to experience wonder and enchantment, to work on a bigger scale and to enjoy a bigger sense of freedom and independence. Outdoor play is a natural enhancement and extension of the indoor environments and wherever possible children should be well placed to decide to play outside at any point. Ideally there should be a flow of play between inside and outside. Outdoor play often has more to offer children than indoor activities but there must be careful planning made for the outside environment. Providing high quality early years resources for the out of doors environment is as critical as resources for the indoor school room. Commitment, determination, imagination and creativity – from children, staff and folks – can turn even the most uninspiring area into a rich environment for youngsters to explore and enjoy.
The curriculum for the initial years should include as many opportunities for first-hand experiences as practicable. It is important to prioritise and dedicate planning time to be sure that children have access to high quality experiences and particularly to have prime quality early years resources available. Young children should be in a position to use these early years resources to use all their senses and to begin to appear sensible of their environment and the world around them. They should be at liberty to try things out, to explore and experiment and to gain from their own mistakes. Time spent researching these important areas will have a huge impact on the education and learning of young children.
In any primary school setting, central to the task at hand are early years resources.
